A fun lockdown photography project is cloning yourself or others into a single picture, it’s quite an old technique but enjoyable and can help while away the hours! For this project, you will need your camera, a tripod or a place to balance your camera in one position and photo editing software.

The Process

  1. Set your scene and set up your camera.
  2. Ensure that you set the camera’s focusing, and if you’re shooting outside, shoot quickly before the light and shadows change.
  3. If you are photographing yourself, set the camera’s timer, then move around the space, try to think creatively, and position yourself in different poses for each time the camera takes a photo. You can also do the same without the timer, so long as the camera doesn’t move as it will cause problems when you come to editing and aligning your photos.
  4. To edit, in your chosen photo editing software, add your photos as layers. If the body positions overlap, make sure the poses in front are on top of the layer stack.
  5. Next, erase layers of each scene to reveal each figure. It can be quite a time-consuming process but gets easier as you learn.

You can use this technique for many purposes including, objects, your pets, swapping body parts, the only limit is your imagination.
