.On the 21st of November, I made myself a mini-me using an App called ‘Peanutize Me’ and wrote a piece listing tips on how to advocate for dolphins in captivity. The post was quite popular, and people loved my mini-me. Before I knew it, I became inundated with requests from people asking to have their very own little activist made, and the ‘Mini activists with a BIG voice’ campaign was born. People used them as their profile pictures on Facebook and also to advocate for their causes.
Tips on how to advocate for dolphins in captivity
1) Pledge NOT to buy a ticket to a dolphin show: dolphin.fyi/DolphinPledge
2) Spread awareness and educate everywhere you go.
3) Take leaflets with you, and be a walking bilboard with your choice of merchandise it helps to create a talking point.
4) Or maybe wear a wristband with info on it. I’ve given away 3 or 4 at supermarket counters believe it or not!
5) Research, and learn your facts so you can answer questions correctly and efficiently. Visit dolphinproject.com for leaflets, study guides & resources.
6) If there’s a dolphinarium near you, go and educate!
7) If you know someone who has been to a dolphinarium or a swim-with program, don’t get angry! Keep calm and put your point across. It works much better and hopefully, they will decide not to swim with dolphins or visit a dolphinarium ever again.
8) Ask them to watch The Cove and Blackfish.
9) Be like a dolphin, learn from them. Fun-loving, free-thinking, embrace life. Cherish your family & friends. Honour them and fight for them. Get creative, and be positive.
10) Lastly never, ever give up! Good luck… Please be their voice. For the dolphins – always. Little Jo
