Inspired by Ed Ruscha

Sixteen bootleg tapes by The Fall.

American artist Ed Ruscha is associated with the rise of the Pop art movement and conceptual art. Ruscha has worked in different mediums, including painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, and film. Between 1963 and 1978, Ruscha produced sixteen photography books, many of which were presented in a reduced and simple form, emphasising the artistic idea and concept.

Books with titles like Twentysix Gasoline Stations (1963) or Thirtyfour Parking Lots (1967) that once sold for a few dollars are now coveted artworks.

Ruscha states that he wouldn’t call his work “revolutionary”, but said his books were “the most powerful things I’ve done.” He stated “I liked the idea that my books would disorient, and it seemed to happen that people would look at them and the books would look very familiar, yet they were like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
